On the 18th of January of last year, PRESANS launched X-Search, the first worldwide expert search engine. We decided to choose the 18th of January again to announce some exciting (at least for us!) news. In the past few years, we’ve had to learn a lot in order to develop fairly robust applications and high-end services to boost innovation. The time has now come to streamline a number of things and to structure our offering in a clearer way. Keep on reading to find out about Sofia, X-Search and X-Call… and to discover our brand new corporate website.
Yesterday (Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011), we were invited to by the Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness i7, the ESCP (Ecole Supérieur de Commerce de Paris) and Accenture who presented their report entitled “Open Innovation: What’s Behind the Buzzword?” at ESCP Europe, Paris Campus.
The presentation started by a very sound introduction by Pascal Morand (dean ESCP Europe) who explained that Research & Development is necessary, but not sufficient to innovation. He also also told us that open innovation processes, although they raise a number of questions (What about IP? If it is open, every goes in the same direction, so what? etc.), they tend to be more efficient than other processes.

Our previous post underscored the influence of culture on the ills of the French innovation system. The notion lacks sharpness. Thus, before we take on the open innovation powerhouse that is the Ecomagination Challenge, we wish to pick up on some comments generated by the first post and deepen our understanding of culture, both as it applies to a country – national culture – and as it applies to organizations and businesses – corporate culture. What will appear is that GE’s foreign experience provides quite a revealing cultural perception test for the French situation.
PRESANS will participate in the third IC3K, held in Paris (France) from the 26th to the 29th of October 2011.
The IC3K is the International Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management. The purpose of the IC3K is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners on the areas of Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management. IC3K is composed of three co-located conferences, each specialized in at least one of the aforementioned main knowledge areas.
At the Grenoble Innovation Fair, the first keynote speaker was Reiner Hoeger, Director Engineering Governance and head of innovation at Continental Automotive GmbH (Continental AG). Reiner gave a very bright talk on his vision of innovation at Continental AG. His talk entitled “The Role of Innovation in a Global Environment” showed the challenges faced by his industry in particular, and others industries in general in the context of globalization, as well as how they overcome these challenges thanks innovation by killing!

Karl Aiginger‘s recent article (click here for the German version) on the French innovation system takes no prisoners when it comes to answering a question seldom formulated in such a direct manner : is this system’s performance satisfactory? According to the Austrian economist, the answer is negative for reasons that lie beyond innovation and should not be separated from the broader French socio-economic context.
This opinion is based on the consideration of a set of performance indicators which may be summed up as follows :

R.I.P.

Operating both within the fields of power (Alstom Power and Alstom Grid) and transportation (Alstom Transport), the core business of the Alstom Group is subject to an innovation imperative: both into adjacent territories, and into disruptive technologies, markets and business models. Smart grids are an illustration of this imperative, as they produce power that is both delocalized and adjusted to the fluctuations of capacities and needs. Since 2007, the « I Nove You » program has reinforced the focus on innovating projects, leading to a permanent competitive watch on innovations falling the business domains of the Group. How does Alstom detect high potential start-ups, how does it then support their development, and finally, how does it eventually integrate them into the Group ? We believe that the case of Inspection Robotics contains answers to these questions.
